Marine City’s third annual Fire, Ice and Spice festival, sponsored by the Marine City Area Chamber of Commerce, saw hundreds of people come out to enjoy skating and fire performances, a chili cook-off, music and more.
The event took place Feb. 11 at Marine City’s historic city hall. The first Fire and Ice Festival took place in 2021. In 2022, a chili cook-off was added to become Fire, Ice and Spice.
“Everyone had a great time,” chamber Director Jeanne Burris-Johnson said. “There was music, fire performers, games out for people to play, a glitter fairy, fire pits, Elsa and Anna from ‘Frozen,’ some of the most delicious chili around, coffee, cocoa and s’mores kits from the Sweet Tooth Café. While we could not predict what the weather would be like, it didn’t matter. This is Michigan; we know how to enjoy ourselves no matter the weather.”
She estimated about 300 people were in attendance throughout the day.
There were eight contestants in the chili cook-off competing for an engraved wooden spoon, and the Marine City Lions Club took home the prize for the second year in a row.
“All the chili was amazing,” Burris-Johnson said.
At the event, two raffle baskets and a signed photo of Derian Hatcher, former Red Wings defenseman, were given out.
In the gift baskets were a $90 gift certificate for a powered parachute ride from Eagle Airsports; spice popcorn from Popcorn Paradise; chips, salsa and an apron from The Mariner; a $50 gift card and mug from Northstar Bank; a box of chocolates from the Sweet Tooth; a coffee and tea basket from the Sweet Tooth Café; slippers and a shrug from Vera Grace and Etta Mae’s; a $50 gift card from the Riviera; a wall hanging, Marine City T-shirt and two tickets to Riverbank Theatre from the chamber; Spumante and Kahlua from Lisa Cottrell; Tito’s Vodka from Louise Beutell; a $30 gift certificate from TwoRivers Winery; Jet’s doll and two free large pizzas from Jet’s Pizza of Marine City, and a $50 gift card and s’more towel and stick set.
“People had a wonderful time,” Jeanne Burris-Johnson said “It was beautiful outside; so many things for people to do.”
